For years I have yearned to have a wood-fired pizza oven for our backyard. However, after much research and evaluation, we determined first, that we could not afford one, and second, I could not find the time to custom-build one. As such, the idea went on the back burner. However the desire simply did not go away.
Then we discovered Chicago Brick Oven on a home improvement show and found that we did not have to spend months building a unit, disrupting our existing yard and, best of all, did not have to second-mortgage the house to get the cooking tool of my dreams that met our quality expectations. After all, “Quality Never Costs As Much As The Money It Saves” and the Chicago Brick Oven line certainly meets that philosophy!
With that, in July 2011, my wife and I received our Chicago Brick Oven Amici wood burning oven—in fact, it was a Father’s Day gift to me from my wife. Well, it has been several months now that we have had the oven and WOW!—it is the ultimate cooking machine and center of attention when entertaining.
The oven, combined with creative toppings, love and passion, has resulted in wood flavors that have our friends, family and clients checking in frequently when we are going to have our next pizza party. They cannot get that flavor at too many places, despite the fact that Rhode Island has a pizza shop on almost every corner.
We have not only prepared pizzas in the oven, but our pre-cooked toppings (wood-roasted charred peppers; wood-roasted garlic; pancetta, onion, garlic and potatoes; sausage; roasted grape tomatoes, garlic and onion, and many more) are all wood-fired as well. We have also wood-roasted steaks, chops and fish, with a Tuscan Grille tucked inside the oven, with incredible results. The oven has been so versatile that our grille got very little use because guests are not wanting the more traditional cookout items when the oven is fired and as such, our grille is certainly envious of the new pizza oven as it has become a warmer for toppings.
In short, we LOVE our Amici and look forward to this season and the new flavors that we have planned.
My wife and relatives have all said this oven has brought the kid out in me again. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who really wants to take the time to prepare some of the greatest old-world flavors that a pizza and other foods can bring to a table.

Lonnie from Kansas sent in this fantastic picture of his Thanksgiving turkey. The tasty-looking bird not only shows off the versatility of a wood burning brick oven from Chicago Brick Oven, but also the confidence one person had to cook the most important meal of the year in it!
Lonnie also demonstrated some clever innovation by heating up a cooking stone on the oven’s hearth and then using it as a Lazy Susan to rotate the bird while cooking.
